Announcing 2014/15 Season

RIOT ACT, INC. announces its 2014-2015 Season

Riot Act, Inc. is thrilled to announce its 2014/2015 production schedule which brings drama, comedy and our annual series of shorts back to Jackson stages for the theater company’s 12th season.

The season kicks off in the autumn of 2014 with Living Dead in Denmark by Qui Nguyen.  Ever wonder what happened after our beloved story of Hamlet ends?  Qui asks just this question and brings our favorite Shakespearian characters (including Ophelia, Lady Macbeth, Juliet, Horatio, Hamlet, and more) back to life to battle a zombie army in a post-apocalyptic present day.  Macey Mott and Marius P Hanford IV will co-direct this raucously fun piece full of zombies, glorious flights, betrayal, and more.   Performances of Living Dead in Denmark will run Oct. 30-Nov. 1 and Nov. 6- Nov. 8.

Next up, Riot Act brings Sam Shepard’s modern classic American play, Fool for Love, to the stage.  Fool  follows May and Eddie as they struggle against themselves and the cosmos to avoid repeating the same hurtful cycles in their lives.  Deborah Supowit will helm this production with her first full length directing project.  Fool for Love is scheduled to run Feb. 19-21 and Feb. 26-28, 2015.

Mauritius by Theresa Rebeck, crashes onto Jackson’s stage in April 30-May 2 and May 7-9, 2015.  As two half-sisters deal with the aftermath of their mother’s death, they rediscover their grandfather’s book of rare stamps.  One wants to sell for a windfall and the other wants to save the book for sentimental reasons.  Enter 3 sleazy collectors who try to snake the book from the sisters.  Filled with twists and turns of deceit, this drama will be sure to please.

Finally, Riot Act will close the season with its longstanding and popular series of Short Plays.  This season Shorts will be presented in conjunction with our 2nd annual New Play Festival.  Always a community favorite, Shorts offers a sort of theatrical hors d’oeuvre for artists and audiences with multiple one-act plays, all winners of the New Play Festival, sharing the bill.  Shorts is scheduled for June 2015.

Riot Act was founded in 2002 to provide opportunities for local actors, directors, designers and playwrights to bring innovative, thought-provoking, challenging theater to the Jackson stage. Riot Act will continue to collaborate with dancers, musicians, videographers, visual artists, and other local non-profits to create great stories for our adventurous audience.
