Riot Act, Inc. Announces Winners of 9th Annual New Play Festival

Aug. 1, 2022

Riot Act, Inc. is thrilled to announce the winners of its 9th Annual New Play Festival. Original works were submitted for the contest and judges ultimately selected three short plays by regional playwrights to be produced as part of Riot Act’s Annual Series of Shorts Sept. 14-17, 2022

The first-place winner will receive $200 and the Marius P. Hanford IV Award. Marius was a longtime stage combat choreographer influential in several theater communities, including Jackson and New York. The second place will receive $100 and third place will be awarded $50.

Winning plays are:

#1 – Gun Control by Stephen Lottridge of Jackson, WY

#2 – Ship’s Log By Margaret Gordon of Jackson, WY

#3 – Love and Loss in Liberty Park by Joanne Rowland of Salt Lake City, UT

All three plays are excellent examples of our talented regional writing pool and Riot Act is excited for the opportunity to bring these new creations to life on the stage.

This year’s winners were selected by judges:  Brent Podosek of CO, Jason Ruff of ID, Deborah Supowit of WY, Charley Daveler of WY, Brenda Little of WY, and Deanna Darr of ID.  We hope to see you at the show as we bring these new scripts to life on stage in September.

Interested in directing one of these short plays?  Join us on Tues. Aug. 9 at 7pm in the Riot Act, Inc. studio at the Center for the Arts.
