Riot Act, Inc. announces a revamp of our New Play Festival playwriting competition. New Play Festival will evolve into New Production Festival in an effort to include more types of theatre artists. Three one-act plays will be selected for production during our Annual Series of Shorts in September 2024.
A panel of judges will choose finalists to be produced. Winners will be chosen by audience votes gathered during performances. Each winning production will receive a prize. The first-place winner will receive $200 and the Marius P. Hanford IV Award. Marius was a longtime stage combat choreographer influential in several theater communities, including Jackson and New York. The second place will receive $100 and third place will be awarded $50.
Proposals from playwrights, directors, and designers will be accepted starting on May 1, 2024 with final entries due by June 15, 2024. Finalists will be notified by July 30, 2024. Judges for this competition include theatre and writing professionals. All participants will receive brief comments through a standardized critique form from judges. This is a wonderful opportunity for artists to gain valuable feedback and see their work produced.
Basic Guidelines:
